After the remarkable success at the Hamburg European Open where she won her first WTA title, Gabriela Ruse received the first Wild Card offered by Winners Open (WO).
Gabriela, who ranked up 65 positions in the official ranking after the victory in Germany, occupying now the 133rd place, becomes the fifth romanian player of WTA tournament in Cluj. Patricia Maria Țig, Irina-Camelia Begu, Ana Bogdan and Irina Bara are the other 4 romanians who have already confirmed their presence on the main board. Other players from Romania will register – or will be invited to participate – in the qualifiers.
Gabriela Ruse (23 years old) also won the first edition of Winners Open in 2020, when Irina Begu, Jaqueline Cristian, Irina Bara, Georgia Craciun and Miriam Bulgaru played at Winners Sports Club.
On her way to the first WTA title of her career, Gabriela Ruse came from qualifying, played seven consecutive days and defeated three players from the leaders list, including the favorite 1. Gabi eliminated Jill Teichmann, Danielle in Hamburg Collins and Dayana Yastremska, and in the final she defeated the hosts’ favorite, Andrea Petkovic.
In Cluj, Gabriela could meet Andrea Petkovic (97 WTA) again. Former Top 10 player, Andrea has reinvented her career after several serious injuries and she recently published some beautiful autobiographical stories – related in the volume “Between fame and honor lies the darkness”. She plays a spectacular tennis again and will be one of the very interesting appearances for the Cluj public.
The Winners Open tennis tournament will take place on 1-8 August, at the Winners Sports Club, with public. Passes and tickets went on sale on 1st of July and more than half have already been sold out.
